PALACE/PALACE

Some readers have told me they like old advertisements so here’s one for the Palace Hotel in West Parade, from Rhyl Urban District Council's tourist guide of 1927. The Palace Hotel opened in 1899 and was the last big hotel to be built on the seafront in Rhyl during the Victorian era.

The Palace Hotel did well for many decades; eventually it became more of a pub than anything else. In 1960s/70s it was a popular venue for live pop music. The building is now a block of flats named Palace Apartments owned by L W Properties Limited, of Rhyl. The exterior still looks pretty much the same, as you can see by the photograph I took today.
