These three photographs of Marine Lake’s main entrance, corner of Wellington Road and Westbourne Avenue, happened to land on my desk at the same time.
The one at the top was taken in 1920s probably. Marine Lake Fun Fair was in full swing at that time. Outside the cafe next to the entrance is a roofless motor coach of the kind known as a ‘toast rack’ because it had a row of long seats with no aisle up the middle.
The middle picture shows the ‘new’ entrance built in 1939, and the colour picture was taken this year.
The unfairly-maligned Rhuddlan Borough Council (mid-1970s to mid-1990s) wanted to move the fun fair back to its spiritual home at Marine Lake. What a pity that never happened. By comparison, there is not much activity there now.
