Queen's Palace entertainment complex in West Parade was featured on this blog Monday, 23 February 2009 in a post titled QUEEN'S PALACE. Here are glimpses of the interior. The pictures at the top show roof gardens that used to be in the glass dome, said to include a replica African village, a zoo and a monkey house. The other picture shows the ballroom with seats laid out for a concert performance.Queen’s Palace, as far as I know, had no connection with the Queens Hotel next door; the hotel was in existence more than half a century before. Note the difference in spelling (Queen’s and Queens).
Taking a chronological view - as we tend to do here in Rhyl - we see Queen’s Palace opened in 1902 a year after the pier’s Grand Pavilion was destroyed by fire and then, in turn, was itself destroyed by fire in 1907 a year before Rhyl Pavilion opened. Sometimes when I hear people say, 'Rhyl had wonderful attractions’, I think, yes but not necessarily at the same time.
