The Sun Centre opened in June 1980. In terms of the number of paying visitors it is the biggest success in the history of the resort. The Sun Centre is in East Parade opposite Conwy Street and the choice of location was criticised initially for being a long way from other attractions at the opposite end of the prom.
This £4.5 million complex of indoor swimming pools had tropical storm effects (which were uncommon at the time) and its indoor surfing pool was the first in Europe. The postcards above are from the 1980s. Recently came an announcement that a lot of money is needed to bring the whole facility up to date.
Meanwhile it's business as usual at the Sun Centre. Current opening times and prices are published in a handy leaflet that you could get by calling in there, phoning (01745) 344433 or sending an email to: admin@rhylsuncentre.co.uk
