BLENCATHRA # 1

Above, top, is a drawing from an advertisement: High-Class School, Blencathra, Russell Road, Rhyl, for the daughters of gentlemen. Conducted by the Misses Trousdell assisted by an efficient staff of resident mistresses and masters from Liverpool and Chester. References kindly permitted to His Honour Sir Horatio Lloyd, Judge, The Mount, Chester, and Rev. Dan Edwards, Vicar of Rhyl.

Blencathra was one of several classy private boarding schools in Rhyl in early 20th century. The road at the side is now called Conwy Street and leads to the Sun Centre. The colour photo shows the building as it looks today; the former Blencathra is split into two: Lyndhurst (left) and Sedgley House, and both are sub-divided into flats.
