PALACE / PALACE
Some readers have told me they like old advertisements so here’s one for Palace Hotel in West Parade, from Rhyl Urban District Council's tourist guide book of 1927. Palace Hotel opened in 1899 and was the last big hotel to be built on the seafront in Rhyl during the Victorian era.
Palace Hotel did well for many decades; eventually it became more of a pub than anything else. In 1960s/70s it was a popular venue for live pop music. The building is now a block of flats named Palace Apartments owned by L.W. Properties Limited, of Rhyl. The exterior still looks pretty much the same, as you can see by the photograph I took today.

MON 5th DEC 2016 UPDATE: This old postcard of Palace Hotel is new to this blog. Single-storey building next door is the Palace Hotel Garage.

THU 14th JUN 2018 UPDATE: When the Palace Hotel was a live pop music venue, a serious rival was The Haven Hotel, also in West Parade. The Haven was further west and had the advantage of being near the fun fair. Residents of a certain age may recall the glass dance floor at the Haven.
