DOLPHINARIUM

The cards above are a reminder that we used to have a Dolphinarium at the far end of West Parade. It was created in 1975 by First Leisure Corporation which was part of the Trust House Forte group that took over Ocean Beach Fun Fair for a while.

In his book ‘Rhyl At The Fun Fair’ the author Eric Hughes says that eventually the Dolphinarium was replaced by a miniature circus and German-style bierkeller, which in turn were replaced by the present Breaks Snooker Club and Sports Bar. The Dolphinarium pool is still under the floor of Breaks.

These days, Seaquarium on the eastern prom has performing sea lions. For details see web site:

The late Dave Thomas used to work at the Dolphinarium on occasion. He recalled, "We had some penguins there for a while, too. They were bad-tempered little beggars!"
