A few days ago I had the pleasure of a visit from Mrs. Diana Jones (was Roberts) and her husband Berwyn, and they brought interesting Rhyl information and pictures of various kinds.The black-and-white pictures above show the old St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church built in 1860s on a corner of Ffynnongroew Road with its main entrance in Wellington Road. The church was designed by eminent English artist and writer on crafts and furniture, John Hungerford Pollen (Senior). Above the door you can see a circular stained glass window from which the detail ‘Angel’ is taken.
When the old church was demolished in the mid-1970s, ‘Angel’ made a getaway and now resides in The Stained Glass Museum at Ely Cathedral in Cambridgeshire. The museum is independent of the Cathedral and owns copyright in the image I've used here.

SAT 23rd JAN 2016 UPDATE: A reader has contributed this Christmas card of a drawing of the old St. Mary's by amateur artist Ralph. The card would have been printed and sold to raise church funds at the time of demolition or later.
