THE PICTURE HOUSE

cinemaMcDonald'sThe black-and-white photographs above show one of Rhyl’s almost forgotten High Street cinemas 'The Picture House'.

During its existence (1911-1921) this cinema had various names including ‘Kirk’s’ after one of its proprietors the Stetson-wearing Henry Kirk, ‘The Picturedrome’ and ‘The City Picture House’. Another proprietor for a while was Saronie (James Roberts) who owned the Scala Cinema in Prestatyn.

The colour photo was taken a couple of days ago by Yours Truly to show that the cinema was roughly where McDonalds is now.
