SOCCER QUERIES

The item above was sent by Sandra Williams who says, “This was cut out of a local newspaper many years ago. The Goalie marked with an X is David Williams who had dog kennels in Ffordd Las for many years until he passed away in 1979; he was my husband Keith's father. The name of the team is Rhyl Corinthians and we'd like to know more about the team.”

The photo below, from Rhyl F.C.’s social club at the Belle Vue ground, was sent by Dave Williams who has no information about it.

Can anybody add some details about these teams? Please send email to:

THU 17th JUN 2010 UPDATE: Jack Green has written to say: “I believe the lower photo dates from late 1940s/early ‘50s and shows the Rhyl and District Junior League Team Balmoral Rangers after they had won the Cookson Cup. The team was created and managed by my father Jack Green when we lived at 17 Balmoral Grove, Rhyl. I think the player holding the cup is David "Bush” Hughes who lived in Grange Road or thereabouts. I seem to remember that the letters BR were sewn on the team jerseys.”

MON 14th DEC 2015 UPDATE: More about Balmoral Rangers from Dave Williams:
"As a kid I followed them around. When they played in Caernarfonshire we all had to get off the coach (except my Grandmother) to go over the old Conwy Bridge.
“They were Sunday matches and in those days you could not play football on Sunday in Flintshire, so their ground was in Kinmel Bay just past the May Queen.
"The snap below would have been taken at a Balmoral Rangers match. I am the youngest lad squatting:

June Turner adds the following information from her husband Roy:
"Standing in the front are (left to right): David Powell jeweller; Norman Jones; Eric Davies, later a councillor; June Sweetman holding the ball; Dorothy Pepperday; Colin Dickenson; and Bill Hughes the gents’ hairdresser.
"Squatting on the right is Frank Williams whose father was an international player and referee – they lived near the Catholic Church."
