MAY DAY 1950

May Day 1950 was a bit special. Being our 60th it was a Diamond Jubilee. World War 2 had ended four years before; nevertheless there was still austerity and some food rationing and shortages, so the sight of a colourful occasion like this would have gladdened a few Rhyl hearts.

Above (TOP) are the front cover of the souvenir programme and a picture of Queen Mary, Miss Mary Webb. The other picture shows her with lady-in-waiting, banner bearer, crown bearer, cushion bearer, train bearers and maids of honour. The ‘marshall’ of the occasion was Mr. G. Taylor.

The pictures were provided by Diana Jones. Thank you, Diana.
