BOBBY HORSES

Geoff Banks sent the picture above (TOP) and says, “I used to work on the fairground part-time to supplement my apprenticeship wage. This picture has ' Margaret and Geoff 1965' written on the back. Margaret was a holiday maker.”

The ride is described by Eric Hughes of Marine Lake and Ocean Beach Fun Fairs as ‘the three-abreast’ because it has an outer circle of horses, a middle circle and an inner circle. It arrived in the 1920s at Marine Lake Fun Fair as a steam-driven ride with wooden horses, and was rebuilt eventually as an electricity-driven version with fibreglass horses.

The Golden Gallopers, a big feature of Ocean Beach Fun Fair, is now owned by Noah Robinson and you can find it on the promenade near Children's Village.
